Pizooka zooka ZOOKIES!!

Ok, so for the next couple of days I’m going to be massively posting about all the delicious food I had in California (and my previous weekend trip to NYC). Prepare yourself!

1st night: we went to BJ’s for dessert. Basically BJ’s is famous for three things: beer (which I cannot legally drink), pizza (which I was too full to try), and pizookies (which was our reason for going to BJ’s!)

What’s a pizookie? Let’s go back to elementary school when we were learning about compound words. Pizza + Cookie = Pizookie! Yep, that’s right folks, a pizookie is basically a giant flat cookie shaped like a pizza with delicious ice cream as topping. Mmm, now that’s the way to make pizza.

We got the Pizookie Trio, 3 mini-pizookies, since there were three of us and we wanted to try all the different flavors. We chose the Cookies ‘N Cream, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, and Triple Chocolate made with Ghiradelli. The cookies were delicious, baked to just the right balance between soft and chewy… Well a bit more on the chewy side, but that’s the way I like it. The ice cream scoops specific to each cookie was harmoniously paired to complement each flavor.

Pizookie Trio!!

My favorite was probably the Cookies ‘N Cream because it was made from crushing and baking the black part of the Oreo, my favorite. And instead of the sickening sweet white filling found in the original Oreo, it was topped with creamy vanilla ice cream. That’s the way to enjoy an Oreo!

I really liked both the White Chocolate and the Triple Chocolate too. The Triple Chocolate was slightly bitter compared to the other pizookies, but the richness of the Ghiradelli cookie was very enjoyable. The White Chocolate Macadamia’s tendency to become too sweet was well masked by the vanilla ice cream, which resulted in a great blend of flavor.

Grade: A-/A

Conclusion: Love pizookies!! Creative idea, great complement of flavors.
